Watch this video and vask in the stupidity of it all!
Basically, I hope to never encounter someone like the pickup driver, and I hope to not be stupid enough to approach someone so angry.

stupid is as stupid does. dont roll up to the window and agitate them.
worst case, you on an Sv, give it some welly, and GTFO

To be honest there was no way of knowing they would have a gun. Biker sounded quite friendly also, he wasn’t looking for trouble.

There are some people who are unhinged enough to go after you just because you are on a motorcycle. The best you can do is just give trouble a wide berth and don’t give anyone an excuse to be offended by you. It’s the same procedure for avoiding road rage from a car, but more so because you are much less protected.
I truly believe motorcycles are a viable, useful, economical, and (most importantly) fun method of transportation if ridden responsibly and courteously.
TL;DR: don’t be afraid; just be careful.

i know. but it really isnt the best idea to agitate him. just hook a turn and leave.

And what a fantastic illustration of stupid...

You are right, you never know how someone is going to react to things, even if apparently a minor kerfuffle.

Got it. I’ll do my best to stay as safe as possible and keep away from pricks like these.

it depends in what state you live in and how close you are to a trailer park
![]() 02/02/2016 at 13:25 |

Exactly! Also, I’m glad you gave me that small piece of advice for my SV. I will do my best to stay as safe as possible, and not go looking for trouble.

Its texas, everyone has a gun

This situation was 100% avoidable. If you see a car driving aggressively or haphazardly, you ride away, not towards it.

Don’t worry about it. There’s idiots everywhere no matter what you’re doing. Just in transportation alone this is less than 5% of the things I’ve faced in the past 12 months.
> Cycling (road) I had beer bottles smashed over me,
> Motorcycle, I had a car purposely bump into me
> Driving a van full of kids I had a guy in a lifted dually literally try to ram me on the highway at 60mph and ended up driving over the hood of the van.
> Subway (yesterday) I was attacked on my way home in rush hour. Fortunately I’m not a small guy but idiots loose their shit anywhere.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 13:36 |

The guy shouldn’t have knocked on the window anyways. With how often the bird flies on roads in my area there would be a confrontation every block.
Middle fingers are just a silent car horn...move on, dude. Your day isn’t made or broken by some rednecks in a fuckin’ TEXAS EDITION (can we focus on those actually existing?).
And I ride...when my bike runs.

As a cyclist I have learned to just keep my head down unless there is something I can actually do to help the situation.
To preface this story, I smile, a lot. Especially when I’m riding. It looks like a perma-grin. I was at an intersection about 4 months ago and while waiting for the light it started to rain. The pick-up truck next to me puts down his window and starts yelling at me. I don’t even hear what he is saying because I am 1. focused on the light as they is a narrow bridge on the other side of the intersection that I need to sprint to in order to not have to cross it in traffic and 2. am terrible at picking up voices over engine-noise. So I keep looking forward assuming the guy is calling me any number of names I hear when I ride. He keeps yelling, and I finally realize he’s actually addressing me.
“What the hell are you so happy about?” He said somewhat nicely when I finally looked at him.
“It’s a great day, I’m out riding and about 4 miles from home, what’s not to love” I respond
“Well you look like a damn queer. You...” and the diatribe went on using every imaginable 4 and 7 letter word you can conjure.
And what had I done other than mount my bike, ride somewhere around 50 miles in my wonderful county and wait for a light before heading back into town. In fact I hadn’t even shoaled the shoulder to jump start the line either. I was the first vehicle at the light, so really there was no reason for this guy to be upset except that he had chosen to be that way at that time.
Lesson, just ignore people and do what you are supposed to do, you can’t affect them so why let them affect you?

its already been said, but just to echo it the best thing to do is take a breath and let it go. Lay back and let them go or drop a gear and disappear.
The guy on the bike didn’t really do anything aggressive, rude, or wrong, but he did (relatively politely) confront the guy. He wouldn’t have gotten a gun pointed at him if he just let it go. Thankfully instances like these are in the big scheme of things pretty rare.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 13:38 |

Yeah, you have no way of knowing. That’s why you don’t roll up to somebody’s window and start banging on it. You’re on a bike, you automatically lose a road rage encounter. Put that throttle to work and make some space instead.

I’ve had a gun pulled on me in traffic, and I drive a car. And the idiot who did it cut me and another driver off, almost causing both of us to wreck.
Stupid people exist everywhere.
Yes, people on motorcycles get a lot of unwarranted hate, but so do a lot of other populations of motorists. Prius drivers, bro trucks, older folks in land barges, etc. You never know when you’re going to run across some asshole who has a particularly strong hate for your particular demographic. Don’t let that make you fear being out there and living your life.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 13:45 |

Just remember that riding a motorcycle means you don’t ride like an idiot... Keep away from cars and trucks and get away from them if they act erratic.
Sadly the Rider in the video was being a major idiot and found himself an even bigger one in a truck.
Assume every single car, truck, etc is trying to kill you. I assume they all were paid to kill me when I ride.

Military had me follow vehicle in front of me by 300 meters. At highway speeds. Always look for way around vehicle in front.
Distance = time.

Hope you are okay from that attack! You seem to run into the worst of luck! Hopefully, 2016 will start to change your luck! Thanks for the encouragement, by the way!

True. Very true. I take things to heart a bit too much, but I’m doing my best to calm down and be at ease. There is nothing better than letting things go.

Makes me re-think my dream of driving the US cross country. You’re sure to meet somebody batshit sometime.

It’s easy: don’t ride in big groups.
When I had a sport bike, something stupid/idiotic always happened when I was with a group of 4 or more. Someone cut off the wrong guy or got tagged for showing off speeding or something ridiculous.
I got so sick of it, I developed the policy of groups of 3 or less. It has served me well. No stupid bullshit since. Yeah that included meetups and other stuff. I guess I became an adult.
Swear to God there’s one in every fucking group that is a magnet for this kind of bullshit.

This Silverado was even the “Texas Edition”

that’s because everything is bigger in Texas, even assholes
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:38 |

I wouldn’t worry about that too much. You’re way more likely to be hit by a inattentive motorist than a bullet.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:39 |

Great advice! And policy! I probably will be riding by myself or with my brother and his friend most of the time. Thanks for the tips on how to be a better rider.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:42 |

Damn! A gun pulled in that situation? I’m glad you didn’t get into a wreck from that!
Thanks for the advice, too. I appreciate it! I’ll do my best to be as careful as possible. Also, I’ll work on letting things go and try not to take them to heart too much.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:50 |

HAHA damn a lot of birds refusing to fly south for a while, huh? Also, I agree with just moving on and the fact that the guy should have not been looking for trouble in the first place. Leave it be.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:50 |

I agree completely! I’ll use this video as a lesson to just let it go and not take it so hard/to heart so much.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:56 |

It was avoidable. Again, I hope I won’t do this on my bike. I will continually remember this video and avoid situations like this.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:56 |

Tis true. I’ll try to not let it get to me.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:57 |

That definitely IS a guarantee. Hope you had fun on those cross country trips! Definitely sounds like a blast to me!
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:57 |

Thanks! I’m known as the person with the world’s worst luck and I’m good with that I’m captain positive haha. Don’t let people keep you from doing things you love. Before you do it, decide if you’ll regret not trying.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 14:58 |

That is EXACTLY what my brother told me... assume everyone is out to kill you and ride defensively. The rider was kind of idiot for approaching the guy, but I can give him an applause for being polite.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 15:00 |

I’ll definitely regret NOT trying to ride.
![]() 02/02/2016 at 17:16 |

Both “accidents” can be avoided for the most part. Be safe, drive defensively, anticipate other’s actions, let angry road ragers go, etc..
![]() 02/02/2016 at 17:18 |

Once you get out of the city, road rage seems to disappear if you stay clear of the busybodies who are in a hurry.

I just saw the word DREAM in your last post.

Would’ve been sensible of the rider to not try and start shit by approaching the car and tapping on their glass. They might be idiots, but how do you think they feel surrounded by motorbikes?
Playing the
